7 Graphic Design Trends Coming in 2021

It seems like we’re all moving into 2021 cautiously after the pervious year betrayed us so brutally. And with all the uncertainties this year holds, there are some things we as business owners can look forward to…NEW DESIGN TRENDS!

So let’s geek out a little together and discuss 7 design trends we expect to see in 2021 and how they can affect your business marking.

Geometric Shapes

We're moving from one extreme to the other. Last year organic shapes were dominating the design scene, but for 2021 brands are going for sharper, hard-edged shapes. Geometry is a strong branding technique because it’s so easily recognizable.

Minimalism

Yes, minimalism has been on the rise for several years now. And that’s going to continue. Because we’re all viewing information more frequently on smaller screens, it’s useful to remove all the excess that makes it difficult to focus on the main message.

Muted Colors

Coming out of an era of bright colors saturating the media, muted colors are now what stands out. Apparently the flashy neons have been a bit overwhelming and more people are looking towards the calm and soothing palettes.

Icons and Infographics

Like minimalism, icons and infographics have been a hot trend for a while now. But with more data being shared and everyone feeling an urgency to consume it, we look for ways to communicate information as quickly as possible.

Retro

We’ve been seeing nostalgia work it’s way into designs recently. Visual throwbacks create a trustworthiness in brands that remind the audience of a “simpler time” before we were all stressing over a global pandemic.

Natural Elements

Moving into this year, natural elements and earth tones are quickly working their way into brand designs. Possibly because we’ve all spend the past year indoors and we’re ready for some nature.

Graphic Design Rebellion

Sometimes you gotta break the rules! Designers are pushing the envelope by creating some visual tension. Unexpected, chaotic and sometimes offensive design choices are standing out against the satisfyingly organized layouts. It’s a different approach to marketing, but for the right brands…it works.

The trends that we see on the horizon are all a response to the changes we go through as a society, and it's important to keep up with those changes because next year, there will be more. 2nd Story is always looking out for what's up-and-coming in the design world so we can better help you stay up-to-date in your marketing.
