Product Shot Mistakes

Last week we gave you some ideas for your next product photo shoot. Click here if you missed it. So to make sure your photos are top notch, we want to make you aware of some very common mistakes in product photography.

Distracting Background

You want the focus to be on your product, not everything around it. If the background for you photo is too busy or overpowering, your audience will get distracted. So keep the setting simple and make your product the star.

Too Many Props

Using props can be a great way to enhance your photos, but just like a distracting background, too many props in your shot will take the focus off of the product. Only use props that guide your attention to the product.

Inconsistency

It's important for similar products to be shot similarly. For example, if you have the same soda in multiple flavors, photograph each flavor from the same angle and in the same lighting. This way your audience understands that the products are generally the same.

Only One Shot

Having more than one shot per product will help your customer understand the product better. Show the product from multiple angles so that they can see the size and shape clearly. Of course it helps to have a written description of your product, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

Amateur Photography

You're proud of your products, right? So show them at their best! You've worked too hard creating a great product to have subpar photos. Professional, high-quality photography is a great investment for your business. Hiring a professional photographer will ultimately save you time and the payoff will be worth the investment.
