Photography is a great marketing tool. At 2nd Story we’ve provided custom photography for several businesses and organizations. A photo shoot gives you a library of images to use in a variety of ways such as in ads, on your website, and social media. It’s a big investment with an even bigger payoff. That’s why it’s important to make sure you've planned and prepared to ensure you get the most out of the experience. Here are 6 tips for a successful shoot.
Meet With Your Photographer
A meeting with the photographer to discuss the details is crucial for getting the most out of the photo shoot. Being on the same page will allow for more creativity during the shoot instead of wasting time discussing what should have already been discussed.
Communicate in Advance
It’s important that everyone involved in a photo shoot is mentally prepared for what to expect before the day of the shoot. Share your expectations and goals with not only the photographer, but with models, directors, assistants, etc.
Be On Time
Photo shoots are usually time sensitive, so it’s important to be punctual. And don’t just be on time, but prepared. People, products, props and places should be ready to go at the appointed time.
Be Present
The photographer has blocked off this time for you so you should block this time as well. Avoid distractions during the time of the shoot. Staying off your phone and on task will ensure you and your photographer are in sync.
Be Flexible
Sometimes the unexpected happens. The weather doesn’t cooperate, a model calls in sick, or your vision just isn’t working out how you expected. This is why it’s important to have a backup plan for any scenario.
Be Open-minded
A good photographer will always go out of their way to get you the shot you want. But sometimes the photographer has some ideas of their own, which might be exactly what you need. It’s important to remember photographers are professional artists and have some great creative ideas that are worth a shot!
There is a lot to think about when planning a photo shoot. This is why 2nd Story offers a free initial consultation prior to any project. So if you are in need of some custom photography for your business, contact us. We’d love to work with you and get your business to the next level!
